The real test

How many questions is the Georgia permit test?

The answer

Road Rules Test

Questions20

To pass15

Road Signs Test

Questions20

To pass15

Our mock seats the Road Signs Test from the manual's signs, signals, and markings material and the Road Rules Test from the rest of the manual, and scores each section against its own official 15-of-20 line.

Official, published by the Georgia DDS.

What happens if you fail

  • Fail and you wait until the next day to retake the portion you failed, and after a second failure you wait 7 days. The manual attaches this to the Class C or D test and sends a commercial applicant to the Georgia CDL Manual instead (manual PDF page 14, and dds.georgia.gov says the same, checked August 2026).
  • Both halves must be passed. The Knowledge Exam is two tests, Road Rules and Road Signs, and each needs 15 of 20 (manual PDF page 13).
  • A first attempt is walk-in and a retest is not: the manual says knowledge exams are given on a walk-in basis (PDF page 13) and dds.georgia.gov says all retests require an appointment (checked August 2026). The permit fee is paid again before every attempt (PDF page 9).

Does this practice test match the real one

No practice test is the real test. The agency writes the real test's questions and does not publish them, so nobody can show you the ones you will actually be asked, and that includes us.

What can be shown is where our mock follows a rule the agency published, where nothing is published so the number is a fact about us rather than about the real test, and where the two genuinely differ. Each row below says which.

  • How many questions, and how many you must get rightSame

Two tests of twenty, fifteen to pass on each, and both must be passed. The DDS publishes it and the manual states it twice on PDF page 13. This mock runs both sections and scores each against its own fifteen.

  • Which questions land in the Road Signs halfNot published

The DDS publishes that one test is road signs and the other is road rules, and does not publish how it divides them. This mock seats the Road Signs Test from the manual's signs, signals and markings material and the Road Rules Test from the rest.

  • How many answer choices you seeNot published

Four. The manual says nothing about how many choices a question carries, and no source here establishes it, so this number is a fact about this mock and not about the real test.

  • Where you sit it, and what you may have openNot published

The manual does not say what you may have with you at a knowledge exam. Here you may have anything open, and nobody is watching.

  • How long you getNot published

The manual publishes no time limit for the Knowledge Exam, and this mock does not impose one.
