The Ohio BMV page on the knowledge test

What happens if you fail

  • Fail it and you must wait before retesting, and the two official sources disagree: the Ohio Driver Manual (PDF page 4) says one day, and bmv.ohio.gov says at least 24 hours.
  • In-person attempts are unlimited, and the manual adds a limit the BMV page does not: you can only take it once in a day (PDF page 4).
  • The BMV's online knowledge test is limited to two attempts in a six-month period, and both sources say so (manual PDF page 4, and bmv.ohio.gov, checked August 2026).

Does this practice test match the real one

No practice test is the real test. The agency writes the real test's questions and does not publish them, so nobody can show you the ones you will actually be asked, and that includes us.

What can be shown is where our mock follows a rule the agency published, where nothing is published so the number is a fact about us rather than about the real test, and where the two genuinely differ. Each row below says which.

  • How many questions, and how many you must get rightSame

Forty questions and thirty to pass, which is the BMV's published 75 percent exactly. This mock runs the same forty and grades on the same thirty.

  • How many answer choices you seeNot published

Four. The manual says the test is multiple choice and never says how many choices a question carries, and no source here establishes it, so this number is a fact about this mock and not about the real test.

  • Where you sit it, and what you may have openNot published

The manual does not say what you may have with you at a knowledge test. Here you may have anything open, and nobody is watching.

  • How long you getNot published

The manual publishes no time limit for the knowledge test, and this mock does not impose one.
